The night life near the Plaza in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico is a lively exchange between people from all over the world.
I created this painting a while ago, but it was recently accepted into the
11th Annual Holiday Small Works Show at Segil Fine Art Source in Monrovia, CA

The Story
I visited San Miguel de Allende for the
first time several years ago to attend a painting workshop with Frank
Gardner. Frankly, although I have visited Mexico many times, it was
mostly along the cities of the Sea of Cortes (the Gulf of California),
along the Baja Peninsula or in the tourist areas on the east coast of
the country. San Miguel is north of Mexico City in central Mexico. It
is a colonial town that has become a well-known haven for snow birds
and lots and lots of ex-patriots from USA and Canada and many other
countries.
The workshop with Frank was fabulous and I found the people and the city just full of excitement, beauty and wonder! I loved it so much that I went back again the next year!!

What was fun was that it seemed that
somewhere in the city there was something interesting going on at any
moment. And Saturday night...!! Well on Saturday night it seemed like
the whole town went to the main Plaza to have a good time. There were
concerts and celebrations and sometimes just a lot of people having a
great time. The main cathedral is a gorgeous building at any time and
at night with all the lights shining on it, it stands like a beacon
throughout the city. I hope someday you all get a chance to visit.

It is a lovely piece, Marian. I would have thought this was in California somewhere. I know there is much Mexican and Spanish influences in that state.
You're so right, Sherry! Of course California was part of Mexico before it was part of the USA!!
And I'd say that a very high percentage of our population is originally or by family line from Mexico.
